Blue Orchid wins GOLD at the Muse Creative Awards 2020

As a Bahamian agency, we're proud to have a lot in common with world-class agencies for globally recognised brands like Reebok, Rolls-Royce and Netflix. Along with an expert team and a knack for savvy campaigns, we're excited to announce another commonality for Blue Orchid - a Gold medal win at the 2020 Muse Creative awards for the successful Kalik Radler social media campaign.

When Kalik - the Beer of The Bahamas challenged us to help them promote their Kalik Radlers, our creative team, lead by Creative Director David Lee, came up with the idea to launch a staged local strike by the "Air Conditioning Workers Union of The Bahamas" protesting the sale of the crisp, cool Radlers that were putting them out of work. The strike went viral on social media - with a single video ad generating more than 74,000 views on Facebook alone. The campaign as a whole reached 87% of drinking-age Bahamians, and boosted Radler sales by 45% year-over-year. Now, it’s put Kalik and the Bahamas on the international advertising award podium.

“David Ogilvy aka The Father of Advertising once said if it doesn't sell, it isn't creative,” commented Lee. “Radler’s 45% increase in sales volume year-over-year speaks for itself, and is testament to the that idea that to drive real engagement and sales, you may need to take a little walk on the wild side. Bahamians are hungry for “refreshing” content that stands out in a globalized world.”

The Muse Creative Awards recognizes creative professionals and their clients, "whose ability to inspire with a concept, idea, or design can spark their inner muse.” We competed against 3820 other submissions from over 50 countries, and were awarded gold in the Social Media category by a 48-member jury panel. The jurors are a mutidisciplinary group of professionals who represent companies such as Tiago do Vale Architects, Neil Poulton Industrial Design, Icona Design, Eleven Inc., Cutwater, amongst others.

Kalik Radler and the team at Commonwealth Brewery, Ltd were instrumental in bringing this project to life. “It’s a privilege and a pleasure to work with a client who trusts us with their brand as completely as Kalik trusts Blue Orchid,” says Blue Orchid Art Director Valentino Lloyd. “They certainly share our passion for creativity, and are as eager as we are to push the envelope and redefine what’s possible for Caribbean advertising. We look forward to telling this brand’s distinctively Bahamian narrative for as long as we can.”

Meijke Dijkstra, Commonwealth Brewery’s Marketing & Partnership Director, shares Lloyd’s sentiments. “So far, it has been a fantastic partnership between Blue Orchid and Commonwealth Brewery. We are very pleased to work with a local agency that consistently delivers award-winning work. In addition to this year’s Muse Award, Kalik’s ‘Who Are We?! We are Junkanoo’ Campaign, made in cooperation with Blue Orchid, was recognized as one of the best campaigns of 2019 within the whole Heineken company, and is a finalist competing for a Heineken Commerce Award in Amsterdam this summer. We are very grateful to work with Blue Orchid, and we are looking forward to making more award-winning campaigns together.”
